Consult on a 1 acre site in fig tree pocket focusing on food security not just for the owners but also the community. Working with already done earthworks we identified the 'spine' of the site and how working with the natural flows of the site - water, wind, solar aspect, we can move away from reshaping the land and radically build abundance while honouring a level of aesthetic of the owners and surrounding community.

Compost. I love it. One of the best ways of restoring soil while using leftover organic waste helping to close the loop. There are lots of different ways of making it. I have a recipe for a 14-day compost, but when I used it, I found it to 'rich', and it burnt the plants. I have tried the 18-day compost, and while successful, I found it far to labour intensive for just me and the time I have available. Have also made a cold compost pile more than once, and while generally good, sometimes the mould spores that inhabited the pile had me worried at the long-term health implications
These days, I keep it simple and create a lasagna style compost from the varied waste streams available. Building it up, keeping it moist, and turning it once a week, I have found that it takes about 30 days to break down properly. A nice compromise 😊

The planting of the food forest, a number of different techniques for the growing of vegetables, and the insectary/nectarines starting to thrive. It was an awesome weekend, and already showing serious outcomes
