November is a time for consolidation in our landscapes and lives. Of course, things can and do get chaotic, but that is not necessarily negative. Instead, it can show us where we need to work, reinforce what we want, and how we can achieve this. In ancient Greece (sorry, the history geek within me), Hestia was an ancient goddess of the hearth. She represented the force that bound the family and the community; the first and last drops of wine at any party or celebration were dedicated to her. In November, the ancient Greeks gathered to symbolically celebrate the power of home, family, and friends. Perhaps this month, we feel more strongly about the lack of specific ties or belonging to a community; a good time to invoke this idea or concept and remember that the actual community is formed not only by blood ties but also by shared values and ideals. Our motto is about Making it Real. Making it real is not going to be easy, but like all things of value, it will be worth it. |
